INTRODUCTION

The design and manufacture of a footstep power generation system is proposed here. Apart from solar and wind energy systems, which are dependent on external elements such as rain and sunlight, the footstep power generator is a free source of renewable energy generated by human motion. This technology might be highly useful in congested public spaces, such as train stations, as a source of free renewable energy.

At such locations, multiple footstep power generators can be employed to enhance the amount of energy generated. To generate power from footsteps, our proposed system employs a rack and pinion configuration, as well as gears and a spring-based mechanism. The system makes it possible to use a more efficient power generator medium. A rack is used to transfer power from human footfall to a shaft-mounted gear, which is subsequently transferred to another gear via a gear-based system. To run the dynamo and generate power, we now attach a generator motor/dynamo to another gear. The voltage generated is now measured with a multimeter.
